5 Things you’re doing WRONG in SEO as a Content Marketer (and how to fix it!)

Posted on Posted in Blog Main

Both Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and content marketing go hand-in-hand and one does not work well without the other. Being such important sides of the same coin, these two aspects have a whole other importance when it comes to marketing. This is also one of the reasons why marketers focus on both of them in order to make the company stand out in the best way. If SEO is used properly, the content created needs no other kind of selling.

However, with so many SEO guidelines, tips and tricks today, it may sometimes get confusing as to what to do and what to stay away from. So, instead of focusing on the dos, here is a quick list of the don’ts when it comes to using SEO for content marketing:

  1. Don’t focus on optimizing everything:

While SEO can definitely help you get on top of the search engine list, focusing purely on it every day may not be the best thing to do! Some of the best markers today will admit that extraordinary, useful and error-free content is better than constantly working on fixing the SEO for randomly-churned out content every day. Here, quality is definitely key.

How to fix it? Focus more on creating amazing content and less on optimizing it.

  1. Don’t focus only on external links:

Although external links have thousands of reasons to be used, the baseline here is that with these links none of your works gets highlighted and instead someone else’s does without them having to do anything! Isn’t that poor marketing on your end?

How to fix it? Work on content which will help you include internal blogs to a greater extent. The more content you create, the more options you have gone ahead.

  1. Don’t forget to promote your old posts:

While you may spend hours creating a post, simply publishing it is not enough. At times, someone who may need it may not have come across when you first posted it, however, a second time it may catch their eye, thus fulfilling the goal of the post.

How to fix it? Go back from time to time and bring up the best posts.

  1. Don’t be irregular with your content

A lot of companies start with posting content regularly when they come up with their first marketing plan, however, over a period of time the number dwindles and soon there is one seen only in a couple of months, something that obviously drives followers away.

How to fix it? Keep blogs short and widen your search for topics to write on, making it easy to find topics and write blogs consistently.

  1. Don’t make the length of your content prevent you from creating quality stuff

A lot of marketers work hard to up their word-count which in the process affects the quality of work being done. Do not focus on the number, rather the eminence of content being created.

How to fix it? Stick to smaller blogs and articles that will help you put everything you wish to say in one go, without having to stuff it purely to make it seem longer.

  1. Hi there this is kinda of off topic but I was wanting to know if blogs use
WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML.

I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding skills
so I wanted to get guidance from someone with experience.
Any help would be enormously appreciated!
